Set decades after Ender Lilies in the same world, Ender Magnolia unfolds in the Land of Fumes, a kingdom served by machine-like artificial beings called Homunculi. A toxic gas seeping up from below has corrupted many of these Homunculi, driving them mad and turning them violent. The story follows Lilac, a girl with the rare gift of an "Attuner" who can cleanse the corruption, as she wakes in an abandoned lab with no memory of her past. Together with a loyal Homunculus companion named Nola, she sets out across the ailing kingdom to purify the afflicted, uncover the truth of her origins, and find a way to save the land.
