I know it's kind of become a common statement, but this game legit felt like it almost cured my depression and helped me keep loving video games. I remember my first time trying to play it that it was unforgiving, obtuse, opressive and clunky. While some of those aspects are definitely true, I'm so glad I kept giving it more chances and ended up beating it and replaying it. This game broke me in such a way that I wouldn't realise was a benefit until way later, much the same way Silent Hill 2, Evangellion, MGS2 and Nier did for me. This kind of game definitely is not for everyone, but this was absolutely for me.
