What an amazing game! Capcom is on a roll this year and I am here for it.
This is such a great effort to reboot this franchise in modern gaming era. I love the game from start to finish.
First things first, the game runs amazingly and it runs on Linux without issue. RE Engine probably is one of the best proprietary engine we've seen in this era. And it looks really good too! It looks pristine, pretty at times, and got that cinematic style going on. What I really liked too is how they are putting a lot of work in the main characters face animation. They look very alive and expressive without it being uncanny or forcing hyperrealistic. It's just a really good looking game.
I truly enjoyed the story ever since the beginning. The writing and storytelling is pretty neat and, as said before, cinematic. It doesn't suffer from narrative exhaustion that a lot of games fall victim to. They know how to write a character, pushing their personality, and make you emotionally affected by them without forcing it in your face. I am also quite suprised on how they portrayed the main protagonist as both having depths while also being whimsical at times.
Gameplay wise, I think they have done it amazingly. I don't really have a complain about the difficulty as some people who are saying the game is "too easy". In my opinion it only comes from people who are expecting a soulslike experience from an action RPG game. By putting the game on this level of difficulty means it will streamlined the experience for most players so people can experience the story with the intended pacing. For me, I think this is the perfect balance between challenging and smooth experience. Although they could have mitigated this complain by giving us the option to play on harder difficulty from the get go rather than make it unlockable after beating the game.
Voice acting is amazing in this game, particularly the Japanese dub version. It makes the story very rich, nuanced, and immersive. It's not that the EN dub is bad, in fact it's actually good. But my suggestion is just play on JP dub as I think listening to British accent in medieval Japan setting can be a bit jarring. Just give it a try.
While I didn't experienced technical issues, I did get stuck on a loading screen once while I was fast traveling. Luckily loading up the game and then getting into the game is very quick. I love that Capcom games do this thing where you can just button mash your way into the game rather than some other AAA devs who wanted you to know who make their game and let you sit there looking at their company's logo for 2 minute before you even got into main menu. And while I am talking about technical stuff, I will also mentioned that I appreciate modern games that let us skip cutscenes or conversations, and also let us pause the game whenever. It's just one of those QoL thing.
GOTY material and I am not exaggerating.
