What a masterpiece.
This is how you do a remake. They successfully created a great remake of their oldest game in the series. They are using their experience from decades of game making into this remake and I love it so much. Truly a love letter for the longtime fans and a great entry for anyone who want to dip into the world of Trails for the first time.
Literally every single aspect I can think of that I dislike on their previous games has been modified or fixed. There's a bunch of QoL improvements such as marking every quests so there's no more "hidden quests", alongside modern combat mixing 2 different styles that players can utilize with so many features that really helps the sluggishness of the original game.
The graphics are gorgeous. The art style and character models are amazing.
But one thing surely stands out the most for me, which is voice acting. When I first heard about the recasting of the original voice actors, I was a bit skeptical. But after finishing this game I do have to say the casting were spot on. I already knew the story, I knew what's going to happen, but it still hits really hard because of the voice actor performances that really delivers the best out of the story. It instills so much emotion to the story.
Amazing remake, amazing game. It's a shame that it didn't get that much attention globally and got ignored in some awards. It's really not a surprise that this game ended up as one of the most successful release by Nihon Falcom.
Must try especially for JRPG lovers.
